What's New at Yaa Halla 2009...

People's Choice Awards 2009

The People's Choice Awards competitions will be held on Thursday AND Friday night!

Announcing our latest innovation to make your Yaa Halla, Y’all – A Gathering of the Stars in Texas, an even more exciting experience.    This coming year, 2009, we are expanding to FOUR full days of workshops and FOUR nights of fabulous shows. 

Thursday will feature Tribal and Alternative style dance, with competitions in the evening focusing on Tribal/Alternative Solos; Tribal/Alternative Duets only; and Tribal/Alternative Troupes (3 or more).   Show of Stars will feature Instructors and invited Guests. Votes will be counted during Show of Stars. 

The Thursday cash prizes for People’s Choice Awards are:
Tribal/Alternative Solo - $500.00
Tribal/Alternative Troupes - $500.00
Tribal/Alternative Duets - $200.00

Plus, all winning categories will receive a trophy and additional prizes.

Friday will feature Cabaret style Belly Dance – Cabaret Professional Star Solos; Cabaret Rising Star Solos; Cabaret Duets only; and Cabaret Troupes (3 or more). Show of Stars will feature Instructors and invited Guests.  Votes will be counted during Show of Stars.

The Friday cash prizes for People’s Choice Awards are:
Cabaret Solo - $500.00
Cabaret Troupes - $500.00
Rising Star Solo - $200.00
Cabaret Duets - $200.00

 Plus, all winning categories will receive a trophy and additional prizes.

And, again this year, 2009, all category WINNERS are invited to perform with our fabulous instructors in the Saturday night Gala Show of Stars.

ENTRY FEES

There is NO “entry” fee to compete, but all contestants must be registered in at least one day of dance workshops, any accompanying musicians must be registered in a drum or zills rhythm workshop, and registration must be verified before the Yaa Halla, Y’all Program goes to the printer.  There are limited spots for each category due to time constrictions, so if you and/or your troupe wish to compete, we suggest you register EARLY!!  (Of course, that will also save you money AND give you workshops with some of the best known instructor/performers in the world!)

All Thursday and Friday night performers will be participating in the People's Choice Awards.
There will be a show of Stars while the votes are tallied.

• Drumming on Friday, Saturday and Sunday: We've added TWO NEW DRUM WORKSHOPS for a total of SIX DRUM WORKSHOPS!!  Weekend Classes with amazing musicians Tobias Roberson and Issam Houshan

• Sunday - Zill Rhythms for Dancers and Drummers: A workshop to keep everyone on the beat featuring Issam Houshan and Aziza of California.
