Shalimar
As often
happens in Real Life, Shalimar Imzadi had a 15 year break between leaving
her last belly dance class in Houston in 1982 and stepping into Isis'
Beginner Belly Dance class in Bedford, Texas in 1997. "It felt like coming
home," she says, "like I hadn't left at all."
A strong
sense of rhythm and musical phrasing lend power to Shalimar's zill work, and
she has zilled with friends at "pick up drum jams" around the metroplex.
Over the years, she has performed at various local festivals and fairs as
well as at private parties for friends' birthdays. As a member of Isis'
Performing Company, she recently performed with sword for the first time at
the "Yaa Halla, Y'all!" seminar in Grapevine, Texas.
Shalimar has
a fondness for inspirational quotes, mostly from song lyrics, and bad puns
that get her pun-ished and sent to the pun-itentiary. And sued for pun-ative
damages.

upon the shoreline and say you're satisfied/Choose to chance the rapids, and
dare to dance the tides." Garth Brooks - "The River" |
