Khalida

Khalida began bellydancing in 1990 while living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She first became interested in 1974 when she saw "The Art of Belly Dancing by Dahlena in the bookstore. She bought the book and tried to learn some of the moves illustrated, but was not very successful in translating text into actual moves. Bellydancing really is better learned with an instructor - and mirrors!!

While in Winston-Salem, she taught beginner classes for 3 years until she left to move back to Texas in 2000. Khalida has been with Isis since January 2002 and is enjoying learning new choreographies and making new friends in her dance classes.

Since 1990 she has averaged 5 performances per year in a variety of venues: shows, haflas, retirement centers, street festivals and charity events. One year Khalida managed to do 13 performances - even though it was a lot of work, she loved it!

Dancing has increased her self-confidence, her self-esteem, given her courage to try new things, and created lasting friendships.
